The temple is the abode of Maha Vishnu in the form of Adhikeseva Perumal and the birth place of Sri Ramanujacharya. It is also known as the avatara Sthalam of Swami Ramanujacharya.

The utsava murthi of Sri Ramanujacharya is known as than ugandha thirumeni in tamil, meaning the idol embraced by the acharya himself.
The temple doesnt have a swarga vasal since is is believed that praying to Lord Ramanuja is the way to heaven.
