Veera Anjeneya temple, Pudhupakam

About the temple

The temple is on a small hillock on the Kelambakkam-Vandaloor route and easily accessible. The presiding deities are Veera Anjeneya and Ramar with Lakshman and Seeta. There are about 108 steps to the temple from the base and it can be accessed by vehicle also to the top. The climb to the top is very scenic and beautiful with greenery all over. Anjeneya is said to be very powerful here as it is believed that this is the place where the lord stopped over for doing sandhya vandanam while carrying the sanjeevani hill.

How to reach

Take the GST or OMR from Chennai city. From OMR when you reach Kelambakkam, there is HP petrol pump on the right side..take the right after the petrol pump and travel about 4-5 kms. This is the Kelambakkam-Vandaloor road. You can see an Anjeneya statue on the right side of the road..take another right to reach the temple. From GST, take the Kelambakkam - Vandaloor road and the temple comes on the left side at Pudupakkam village. We can easily see the temple on the hill while travelling on this road.

Temple timings and contact details

The temple is open from 8 am to 11am in the mornings and from 4 pm to 7pm in the evenings. It is open for a longer time on Saturdays and sundays.

 About the temple

The temple built by Sri Seetharama Swamigal is very close to and on the way to Thirumalai Vaiyavoor Srinivasa perumal temple. Its a very peaceful temple with some unique sannadhis are difficult to find elsewhere. It is neatly maintained and the presiding lord is the charming Srinivasa perumal. Also called Amritapuri the temple is managed by the Sri Srinivasa Niketanam. There is seperate sannadhis next to the main structure for the unique Ganesha, Garuda and Anjeneya.

Specialty of the temple

There are some unique vigrahams. First is the unique Navagraha Vinayakar which is a twin god sculpture with Ganesha in the front and yoga narasimha at the back side seated on Adisesha. The Nava grahas representing the nine planets are placed on the body of vinayaka in the front. The Garudan is an attractive one with a Nectar pot on the upper right hand and the left upper hand holding the Serpent King. The Anjeneya idol has the Sanjeevana mountain on the right hand and the mace in his left hand. Also Anjeneya's right feet is ahead of the left. 

How to reach

Going on the GST road from Chennai, about 18 kms from Chengelpet look for the board directing to Vedanthangal. Take the right there (called Padalam koot road or junction) and the temple is on the right side. There is a big arch at the entrance.

About the temple

The aadhi moorthy of this temple is Sri Varaha Perumal and the presiding deity is Srinivasa perumal. There are three entrances in the temple- the first one to Varahar and other sannadhis, the second one for Srinivasa perumal, thayar and andal sannadhis and the third one with a big gopuram for Chakratazhwar and Narasimhar and Sri Vedantha desikar. Sri Ramanuja is said to have prayed to the Lord and also meditated here. One can climb the steps or even reach the top by vehicle. There is a small road in not so good condition but definetely motorable. To reach by vehicle one has to travel a little further after the steps begin and take a right at the Amman temple on the road.

The Lord looks stunning and very similar to Srinivasa perumal at Thirumala.
